Kindness and Patience
Kindness and Patience: Find Yourself First, Then Give to Others
Love others as you would have them love you. The problem with this statement arises when a person hasn't yet figured out how to love themselves. Even worse, what if they don't even like themselves at all?
The basic premise of spiritual life is that we each have unique qualities and gifts and that we have to discover and develop in order to be able to fulfill our potential. Particularly in modern society, where there are so many prepackaged answers vying for your attention and allegiance, it is challenging to discover your own unique individuality. The bottom line is that the primary resource in being able to be patient and kind with other people is to find your own reasons for living, what gives you joy and motivates you to become yourself.
The paradox is that one of the best ways to discover yourself is to find out how you can help other people, how you can make a difference in someone else's life.
So my advice on this issue is as follows: if you are not motivated to be kind to others, focus on finding your true calling. This will help you to love yourself enough so that you will naturally love others. If you don't know what this is yet, use whatever resources you have with your vision and imagination until you discover it. The Universe will support you in this activity.
