Creativity and Consciousness
Creativity allows us to submerge in the Cosmic Vibrations and to experience Universal Life Energy on an emotional and visceral level.
Because we are so used to interacting with creative artifacts through art, music, movies, videos and performance as part of our culture, many people do not realize how much this has changed in recent history, While writers and actors, artists and muscians always had some influence, they were often marginalized socially in the past. Also the average person's interaction with culture was much less frequent and intense. If you had shown someone 150 years ago the current level of influence and industry that is built around our cultural expressions, they would likely not have believed you.
Just as scientific and spiritual knowledge needs to be put in its proper perspective, so do the powerful expressions of collective culture. The effects of being transported to another world through movies, to experience another person's vision, fantasy or portrayal of historical events can not be underestimated. In the past, we would tell stories in-person or through the written word, invoking the imagination and empathy of the audience. Now it is just as important that as audience members we learn to get the benefit of the new high-impact media without mistaking its vividness for the truth of its content. Full resolution HD video does not make its subject matter more true, but it does indicate that collective resources were invested in creating it. Sometimes that means there is a community of purpose that has invested energy in getting an important message across - other times it's more like propoganda, slick in order to conceal underlying contradictions.
The promise of the Internet was to decentralize the production of media, to allow more people to participate in the collective flow of information. There is no doubt that has occured on some fundamental issues, but the economics of culture is still highly concentrated in a small group of people who are more often motivated by financial gain than cultural or social evolution. It is up to each of us to support those who are finding a way to express beauty and truth in a way that resonates with us and resist being herded into buying into things that don't.
As society gets bigger, the role of individuals who are true to their creative and intuitive promptings becomes even more important. Each of has to learn to be creative in meaningful ways - sometimes by decorating our homes, investing energy in our children and coming up with creative ways to have fun with our friends. This section will suggest ways to support and enhance individual creative efforts in yourself and others.
