Astrology - Do We Really Need It?
Someone asked me recently, 'Do we really need Astrology?'
My first response was, 'do we really need psychology or history or sports?' Actually, I would consider giving up psychology and history, but seriously, no Sportcenter?!? Of course what we human beings need is to get our priorities straight and treat each other with respect and dignity. In the modern world, part of that better treatment is a society that is able to support people specializing into doing things that all of us can't do, but some of us can - it actually adds dignity to all of us when we trust other to take care of some of what we need, so each of us can do a better job of whatever little thing we do. For me, the problem with specialization is when it results in some people lacking in necessities. A wise and thoughtful person, looking at things from the perspective of the Earth itself, would reason it this way - the Earth has given us all we need to live, so as a collective, we should take it as a permanent responsibility to make sure all people have the means of subsistence.
So what does this have to do with Astrology? In my case, Astrology has been a way that I make sense of my life here on Earth. Not a rigid system of classification, but a Geometry of Meaning (as Arthur Young called it). Simply put if you are going to synchronize to something for the purpose of tracking cycles of time, why not use the most sublime embodiment of order we know, the incredibly orderly movements of the Planets in our Solar System. Actually, we do use some of these cycles - our clocks and calendars are all synchronized to the cycles of our own Planet - our rotation (day and night) and our orbit around the Sun (days of the year). So is it a big stretch to explore the potential synchronicity between events on earth and the cycles of the other planets in our relatively tiny Solar System?
Keep an open mind about this subject, spend some time exploring these clocks that can help you synchronize with our energies in our Cosmic environment - if you get any fraction of what I get from it, it will be well worth your time.
